She and her brother, Robert, were walking to school and a snow squall hit. A car did not see them and hit both of them. Her brother died in this accident. This happened on December 20, 1928.

The driver of the other car was driving with out a license and all evidence showed that he was in the wrong lane and may have been drinking.
