RACINE JOURNAL-TIMES. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1923
WOMAN'S BODY FOUND IN LAKE
Mrs. Emma Kaae Thought to Have Cast Self Into Water on Saturday.
The body of Mrs. Emma Kaae, 35 years old, wife of August Kaae, was found dead on the
beach at the foot of the Chicory road at 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning by Percy
Harrison, of Chicago, who was visiting relatives in Lake Park and who had taken a stroll
down to the lake front.
It is the belief that Mrs. Kaae committed suicide. She left her home on the Asylum
road, about a half mile south of the Taylor Orphanage, on Saturday evening at 8 o'clock
presumably to buy Christmas presents for the family. She was not seen after that until her
body was found yesterday morning. Mrs. Kaae gave his wife a sum of money to be expended
for the gifts and he remained at home to care for the children. When Mrs. Kaae had not
returned at midnight the matter was reported to the authorities. It was thought that
Mrs. Kaae went down the Chickory road and walking out onto the pier, leaped into the lake.
It is stated Mrs. Kaae had been despondent of late.
After Mr. Harrison discovered the body the sheriff was notified, who took charge with
Acting Coroner Brooker. Coast guards were pressed into service as it was almost impossible
to drive down the road to the beach. The body was taken to the Hanson Funeral Parlors.
Mrs. Kaae is survived by her husband and four children, also a brother in Appleton
and a sister, Mrs. Ove Anderson, 515 .Harvey Drives The funeral will be held at the Kaae
home on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

WOMAN'S BODY FOUND IN LAKE; MISSING 3 DAYS
Disappeared From Home Saturday Night-In Poor Health For Some Time. May Order
An Inquest. Body Seen By Man Walking Along Chickory Road-Sheriff Notified By Farmers.
The body of Mrs. Emma Coe, 35 years old. Wife of August J. Coe, a farmer residing
on the Hughs farm, southwest of the Taylor Orphan asylum, was found floating in the lake
off the Chickory road, near the Kenosha County line, Tuesday morning.
The body was taken from the water by coast guards and taken to the Hanson Funeral
Parlors.
DISAPPEARED SATURDAY,
Mrs. Coe disappeared from her home last Saturday night. It was believed that she
had gone to visit a neighbor, but when she failed to return at midnight it was feared
that she had met with an accident and a search was made but no trace of her could be found.
Tuesday morning Harry Harrison, who lives south of the Case South works, while walking
along the lake embankment near the Chickory road, saw a body floating in the water. He
informed farmers, who in turn notified Sheriff Wherrey, who, with Acting Coroner Brooker,
drove to the Chickory road and then called the coast guard to recover the body from the
water. Later it was identified as that of Mrs. Coe.
ILL FOR SOME TIME
Mrs. Coe had been in poor health for some time. When the body was removed to the
undertakers it was found that it had been bruised by being buffeted against a pier. She
is survived by her husband and four children, aged 3, 7, 9, and II years, one brother,
who resides at Appleton, and a sister, Mrs. Ova Anderson, 515 Harvey drive, Racine.
