He farmed a bit and did other things for a living. He started to sell farm machinery and automobiles. In 1921 he got a contract from Ford and became a well known Ford dealer for 30 years.

She left Oslo, Norway with Beatha Arneson, her aunt, on August 25, 1893 on the SS ANGELO. Their destination was listed as "Kvbek." That particular ship only went from Kristiania (Oslo) to Christiansand and then Hull, England. In Hull she probably took a train to Liverpool and then took the SS NUMIDIAN to Quebeck. They left Liverpool on August 31, 1893 and arrived in Quebec on September 9, 1893 This was not uncommon thing to do. It was easier to enter the U.S. from Canada than to take a ship directly to New York. My father told stories of her taking a long train ride after she got off the ship. She took a train to probably either Chicago or Minneapolis. She moved between Chicago and Minneapolis where her uncles lived. She worked in Chicago for many years. In the 1900 Census she was living with her uncle, Ole Hanson, in the West Town area of Chicago. She had a number of relatives in the Chetek, Wis. area which she visited on her way between Chicago and Minneapolis. This is probably how she met John. She was a trained nurse and was hired to attend his first wife, who was dying of TB.

Dovre, Barron Co., Wis., born 20-Feb-1870 in Dovre, Barron County, Wisconsin, (son of Lars Abrahamsson and Johanna Jonsdotter) died 21-Oct-1941 in Dovre, Barron County, Wisconsin, buried 25-Oct-1941 in Dovre Cemetery, Dovre, Barron Co., Wis., Obituary 31-Oct-1941 in Chetek Alert, Chetek, Wis. John: His family was one of the first to settle in Dovre, Barron Co., Wis. In April of 1868 the family moved on to their 160 acre homestead land. John was one of the first white children born in Dovre. He was born in a log cabin and lived all of his life on that farm. On the 1895 Wisconsin State Census he was listed as the head of the family. His father was about 64 at this time and probably decided it was time for his son to take over officially the responsibility for the farm.
After a relative in Sweden died, Anna Abrahamsdotter, he received money from her estate for a number of years afterwards. Recently a few letters dating from September of 1921 and part of a will from 1907 were found to indicate this.
He and his family are also listed in the 1900 and 1910 Federal Census and the 1905 state census for Dovre, Barron Co., Wis.

Arthur George Abrahamson , born 24-Jul-1906 in Dovre, Barron County, Wisconsin, baptized 09-Sep-1906 in Dovre Lutheran Church, Dovre, Barron County, Wis., died 26-Sep-1960 in Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, buried 28-Sep-1960 in Lake View Cemetery, Chetek, Wisconsin, Obituary 14-Oct-1960 in Chetek Alert, Chetek, Wis. He attended the little one room school house across the road from his parent's farm in Dovre township. He spent his entire life on this farm and inherited it when his father died, in 1941, and operated it until his last illness. He died in 1960 and the farm was sold. It is now owned by the Wendt family.
His mother had still lived on the farm until her death in 1950. She had been in poor health and Julia, his sister, had helped keep house for both of them. She continued to do this until Art married in 1955.
He married Ruth H. Ruth was married to Orville Hiram Nelson in 1929 and had three children from that marriage, Larry, Barbara and Kathleen Nelson . After he died she married Art Abrahamson in 1955. Her daughter Kathleen moved in with them. Larry Nelson lived in Chetek and Barbara was in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
During World War II she had worked in a defense plant in Eau Claire, Midway Grocery in Chetek, Kaub's Bakery and then Nielsen's Flavor Crisp Cafe both in Chetek. She had moved from Eau Claire up to Chetek in 1941.
She then moved to Schofield Street in Chetek, Wisconsin. Recently she had been hospitalized and as of July 12, 1996 was recovering in Knapp Haven Nursing Home, Chetek, Wisconsin. She died there and the funeral was from the Chetek Lutheran Church.
She loved sewing and had been a member of various PTA's and the American Legion Auxiliary and the Knapp Haven Auxiliary.43. iv. Harry Conrad Abrahamson born 25-Jan-1908.

Passenger list indicated that Vilhelm Gulbrandsen had paid for their tickets and that their destination was 416 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago Illinois. Living in San Jose, Cal. in 1950 when Claira died.

He came her with a brother-in-law Gustav Arneson and a sister-in-law Agnes Arneson. Family anglised their name to Gilbertson. Lived in Chicago 1910 & 1929 census. Listed as a machinest in 1910 and 1920. In 1910 his brother Halton Gilbertson age 23 was living with them.

She married Axel Swenson , about 1906, born 1881-1883 in Norway, immigrated 1888 from Norway. Axel : In 1910 (living in a rooming house)and 1920 census living in Superior, Wisconsin. In 1919 family was living in Superior, Wis. when they came to Chetek for Chris Nelson's funeral. In 1910 & 1920 he was listed as a riviter in a shipyard.

Enock Ludwig 6 Arneson , (Elias 5 , Arne 4 Andersen, Anders 3 Olsen, Ole 2 Nilssen, Nils 1 Olsen) born 26-Nov-1889 in Barron County, Wisconsin, died 01-May-1969 in Rodeo, Contra Costa County, California, buried in Lake View Cemetery, Chetek, Wisconsin, Obituary __-__-1969 in Chetek Alert, Chetek, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I and became partially disabled. When he married Clara, in 1924, he worked for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan.
They moved to a farm west of Chetek, Wisconsin, on Highway "D" and grew potatoes. After Clara died in 1933 they had a house keeper to take care of the children. She wanted to marry Enock. He did not want that. He could not take care of the farm and the children so he sold the farm. They moved into his mother's old house in Chetek. In 1939, he and the children moved into his aunt Ellen Nelson's house. She was still living there. When she died he inherited the house.
In 1952, he sold his house and lived with his daughter Joann. He also visited his other children. On an extended visit to his daughter Agness, in California, he took ill. He died there in May 1969.
In 1920 census was living with his step-brother Arvid Lundholm in Maple Grove, Barron County, Wisconsin.
He married Clara Eckstrom ,04-Jun-1924 in Dallas, Barron County, Wisconsin, died 19-Jun-1933, buried in Chetek Cemetery, Chetek, Wisconsin, obituary Need. Clara died of child birth complications.

iii. Agnes Arneson , born 19-Jun-1927 in Maple Grove, Barron, Co., Wisconsin. They have no children and now live in Rodeo, California. She married Kenneth "Bud" Van Alstein . Kenneth : He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He ran a shoe store in Chetek, Wisconsin.
iv. Carol Arneson , born 30-Dec-1929 in Maple Grove, Barron, Co., Wisconsin. They live in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. She married Eugene Reed , 19-Jul-1950 in Zion Luth. Church, Pine City, Minnesota, born in New Auburn, Wis. ?, (son of Hugh Reed ). Eugene : Moved to Dixon, Ill.
v. Joan Arneson , born 07-Feb-1931 in Maple Grove, Barron, Co., Wisconsin. They lived in St. Paul, Minnesota from 1966 and now live in Chetek, Wisconsin, and spend their winters in Texas. They plan to spend time in Florida. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party on June 29, 1997. They picked that date because the family members could get together on that date. She married Blakely Howard U'Ren , 13-Sep-1947 in Pine City, Minnesota, born 10-Aug-1926 in Angus, Cedar Lake, Barron County, Wis., (son of Maurice Henry U'Ren and Emma Mildred Bollman ). Blakely : The U'ren family is originally from Cornwall in England. Some branches of the family spell the name Uren. He was a truck driver in the Twin Cities. He had a few strokes but became disabled in 1975 because of two brain anurisms.
