Goldbeck Family History

2.

Generation One

1. Christian 1 Goldbeck . Listed as a burger of Potzlow, Uckermark, Brandenberg, Prussia, in his son's marriage record. The records for Potzlow are incomplete. I have not been able to find anything about him other than his name.

Children:

       2. i. Carl Goldbeck born 21-Feb-1823.

Generation Two

2. Carl 2 Goldbeck , (Christian 1 ) born 21-Feb-1823 in Potzlow, Ukermark, Brandenburg, Prussia, died 02-Dec-1902 in Mitchell, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, buried 06-Dec-1902 in Plymouth Cemetery, Plymouth, Wisconsin, Obituary 06-Dec-1902 in Plymouth Reporter & Review & Corresp., immigrated Feb 1857 to USA. There has not been a confirmation of the exact date the Goldbeck family arrived in the United States. Most of the obituaries and other souces state they came over in 1857 though in the 1910 Census they said 1858. On February 25, 1918 Carl Herman Goldbeck filed a Declaration of Intention to become a citizen and stated that he came over in February of 1857 and entered the U.S. through the Port of New York. A search of 1857 from January to April has not confirmed this. He was about two years old at the time and may not have remembered the date correctly. His younger brother, Frederick William Goldbeck, in the 1860 census was listed as being born in Prussia. On all the other census material and all other sources state he was born in Sheboygan county on October 17, 1858. Unfortunatly he does not have a birth certificate on file in the Sheboygan County Court House. What we do know for certain is that Carl Herman Goldbeck was born in Grieffenburg, Germany on August 14, 1856 and that by the 1860 census the family was living in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. This gives us a two to four year period of time for their immigration. It is probable that Henrietta's parents also came with them as they are listed on the 1860 census as living with them.
Carl Goldbeck was listed as a hotel keeper in Sheboygan Falls on the 1860 census. On November 17, 1871 they purchased a farm in Sheboygan township. It was 5/8 of the west 1/2 of the north east 1/4 quarter of section 6. This was about 51.8 acres. The value of the land in 1884, when sold, was about $3,000. In February 1884 a farm was purchased in Mitchell township for about $5,488. This was 158.5 acres and included a cheese factory. The farm was in section 12 and mostly covered the west 1/2 of the east 1/2 of the section. This was next to the John Roepke farm. Bertha married their son and Louis married their daughter. Carl then sold the farm to his son, Carl Herman, for about $7,450 in June of 1891. Carl and Henrietta lived here for the rest of their lives.

He married Henrietta Charlotte Fredericka Hartmann , married 04-Aug-1853 in Greiffenburg, Brandenburg, Prussia, born 08-Mar-1823 in Greiffenburg, Brandenburg, Prussia, (daughter of Johann Ludwig Friedrich Hartmann and Caroline Maria Luisa Wieland ) baptized 26-Mar-1823 in Greiffenburg, Brandenburg, Prussia, died 01-Jul-1911 in Mitchell, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, buried 05-Jul-1911 in Plymouth Cemetery, Plymouth, Wisconsin, obituary 05-Jul-1911 in Plymouth & Sheboygan, immigrated Feb 1857 to USA. Henrietta was supposed to have had eight children at this time can only account for 7. Probably another died at birth or as an infant in Sheboygan County. She died at the home of her son Carl Herman Goldbeck in Mitchell.
